The Covid-19 pandemic has presented tremendous challenges to countries around the world as they try to keep their citizens safe while keeping their economies going. At the same time, the pandemic has created many opportunities for the pharmaceutical and healthcare industries. To address the crisis, companies and institutions studied the virus in order to develop diagnostic tools as well as new vaccine and treatment options. National healthcare organisations have had to improve the healthcare delivery and management system to address medical supply crunch and sudden patient influx at hospitals. They also had to enhance healthcare surveillance systems to better track the spread of the disease. These efforts led to the creation of new products and services.
We are pleased to note that a number of Singapore-based biomedical sciences companies have contributed in various ways to this fight against COVID-19. A number of them have developed and
launched Covid-19 diagnostic kits, some have developed innovative healthcare products to facilitate healthcare delivery, and a few are involved in vaccine and treatment developments. Even some non-traditional biomedical companies have contributed towards production of healthcare products such as masks as well as development and improvement of our national healthcare monitoring and surveillance system. We would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their efforts and for putting Singapore on the map.
Singapore is uniquely located to help these companies and institutions in the biomedical sciences sector flourish. We felt that we can contribute too by ensuring that the Singapore PharmBio Guide is a comprehensive and timely industry directory. For new companies setting up in Singapore and local biomedical sciences start-ups, the guide continues to support them with essential operationalstart-upinformation.
